PEQUANNOCK -- A call for help was sounded and nearly 450 Pequan-nock residents answered on Saturday, hoping that a quick swab of their inner cheek could save a local girl's life.

Friends, acquaintances and strangers participated in a bone marrow drive at Pequannock Valley Middle School in honor of 12-year-old Traci Fox, one of two Pequannock children who recently was diagnosed with leukemia.

It was the largest turnout in recent memory for such a drive, which typically averages 85 registrants, according to The Icla Da Silva Foundation, which ran the event and is responsible for drives in the Northeast as one of the country's 10 bone marrow recruitment groups.

Kids may be back in school, but it's still summer and still hot, especially for those who can't afford an Aquafina or Aquapod and don't even have a tap to open or a glass to fill with water.

Enter Operation Chillout, the outreach ministry at St. Luke Roman Catholic Church in Long Valley.
